Runaway train, never going back
Wrong way on a one-way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
-- soul asylum,
runaway train --
i'm feeling oddly weary. kinks kep popping up and i just want a good long sleep.

cheerio peeps!!
merry cny!
the cymbals and drums of lion dance are rumbling in the distance and it amazes me how i actually A) recognise the rhythm B) know how to play the beats accordingly. it's oddly therapeutic though many may beg to differ. but then again it's coz they're in the distance. memories of them clanging next to my ear are stll quite fresh. but anyhow, they're one of the few things that are reminiscent of chinese new year and actually emobdy the festival's spirit.
it's chu4 now. and i've got another dinner on tonight. a few unsettling things unnerved me a little. it's almost as if, every new year i'm looking to something else and liking less of the things i used to enjoy. this year, i've almost lost my craving for pineapple tarts so the 4 varieties at home are sitting there quite untouched. i don't really like
bak gwa anymore. or that coz this year's batch didn't taste that nice. for the first time in my life i turned down a serving of shark's fin soup(fine, i wasn't feeling that well) and i didn't eat that much abalone this year either. on the whole, the food which i've so associated chinese new year with just didn't tempt me. and i miss my waxed duck sorely which we didn't have this year.
angbaos don't make my day either. i mean a while back, i was beginning to feel the lull too. so generally the first day of new year was rather depressing. i was feeling oddly tired and heading from one relative's place to another was kinda dumb. especially when you keep holding the oranges or tea and saying
xin nian kuai le to the same people who were riding in th car with you.
but chu2 dawned a little brighter. it was our turn to play hosts to the numerous guests who graced the doors of our humble abode. onkay that sounds seriously dumb. anyway. i woke up at 6 plus!! it's unearthly. and trooped to chinatown to buy the live
lei fish. i've chickened out for several years coz it's really early. but try carrying the fish anyway. it's heavy. the fish is already 1 plus kilos and keeping it alive means you gotta carry water too! and the fact that my fish was extra active just meant that i had to carry much water than my sis. so the rest of the day was spent entertaining and hosting my relatives, maternal in the day and paternal at night. played chez geek and munchkins with my cousins at night. it was a lot more fruitful. and i ate
yu sheng another thing which has lost its attraction for me.
chu3 was yesterday. and it was rather fun!! lunch was with 71 people!!. i will remember that ailin doesn't take lamb!! it was nice catching up. and why was yisheng's NS buddy with yuenmei?? putting 2 and 2 together can give me 3 4 or 5..
night was really fun. i met up with jeremy and clara at auntie seah's place. it's 11 years now and counting. jason was around too. he's in NS now though in Falcon company(dunno what's that) but then he left early to book in. he dinner was loud and uncle Da Hua was there with his family. i haven't seen his kids in ages. though they can't be called kids anymore. his twin sons are already 23 and his daughter 21. i haven't seen them since i was like 10 though. so it was nice catching up. and they're really funny. i guess the word to describe them would be unreserved and forthright. it mayn't always be the questions and replies that people will produce normally, but it's refreshing to hear something different for a change. the 2 sons are waiting to enlist too coz they did their studies in Australia. anyhow, they left to watch a movie so mimi, clara and i were left to do our own stuff. the adults went to sing karaoke which i haven't had the mood for not since Baby died. we busied ourselves and played board games! haha. monopoly, hotels and then risk. we must be insane but it was really fun. and we were singing to the clara's cds. it's just nice that we're really playing wholeheartedly now. coz these days we meet up a lot less often and we're all caught up in our own lives that sometimes we just don't have as much fun. there are all these other things that we're so preoccupied with. anyway, last night was really reminiscent of all the games we used to play as kids. clara lent me half-blood prince too!! so i've got the last potter book now and i'm slowly devouring the 5th.
i should head off now. lunch is almost ready. ciao!!
